Description

The miniature Lochgelly Tawse started life as a bit of a novelty item but was taken up by primary school teachers. The full size tawse / school belt was used on the hand but the miniature tawse at half the length was easily used on the bottom, with the teacher able to place a child over her knee.

This version is made in medium weight only and is not weight stamped with the option of 2 or 3 tails and maker’s stamp ‘JOHN. J. DICK MAKER LOCHGELLY’.

It was traditionally burnished with wax to a dark tan colour but I’m offering the option of dark brown too, the dark brown wax highlights the natural grain of the hide producing an aged patina.

These belts are made from one solid piece of Buffalo Hide and are flexible enough to roll and at just 30cm long it would have fitted comfortably in teacher’s handbag.

This leather is veg tanned and heavily wax burnished it will not require a lot of care but please avoid exposure to bright sunlight or heat, a wee polish up occasionally with a wax polish is all that’s required.
